Biographical summary
Tahir S. Kafil, M.D., is a Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in Cardiac Imaging and Heart Failure. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Adult Cardiology Fellowship at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Kafil subsequently completed his Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Ottawa, Canada. During his time in Ottawa, he helped establish the Myopericarditis Clinic. He is a co-Investigator in a large, CIHR-funded study on Myocarditis and Pericarditis. For his research work he was awarded the prestigious Myocarditis Foundation's Fellowship Grant.
Dr. Kafil then completed further clinical training in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. During his time there, he led several, international, expert consensus studies on the use of Cardiac Imaging for diseases with inflammation of the heart. For this, he won the Lawrence Award for Cardiac Imaging Research.
After completing his clinical training in Cardiac Imaging and Heart Failure, he started on Faculty at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is active in the Centers for Cardiac Sarcoidosis and Pericardial Diseases, where he also sees patients with Myocarditis and Myopericarditis.
