Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center mission and vision

Our mission is to ensure that all patients receive the finest cancer care in the nation, derived from outstanding research, constant innovation, compassion, and sharing of our data, knowledge and expertise. To achieve health equity, we deeply engage and support the patients and communities we serve.

With the support of our patients, benefactors and government agencies, we seek to become the cancer center of the future — a global cancer authority — from interception through diagnosis and treatment to survivorship. We envision a center without walls, based on all Mayo Clinic strengths, to deliver cancer expertise to people and communities no matter where they are.

    Achieving our vision

To become a cancer center without walls that delivers better cancer expertise to everyone, everywhere, we've set eight strategic goals that drive our decisions.

    1. Deepened cancer discovery science
Drive and deepen innovative discovery and translational science.
    2. Early cancer detection and interception
Drive innovative science and practice to transform the way we detect and intercept cancer at its earliest stages and prevent progression to more-advanced disease.
    3. Novel cancer therapeutics and therapeutic modalities
Discover, develop and deliver innovative therapies and novel treatment modalities to prevent and treat cancer, particularly advanced and complex cancers.
    4. Data science, predictive modeling and AI
Connect patients and communities with data to create new knowledge that will transform cancer care, and drive research to prevent and better treat cancer, thereby improving outcomes for all.
    5. Transformed cancer care delivery
Through platform transformation, create the optimal patient-centric cancer care delivery model and digital front door, blending virtual, in-facility, and Cancer Care Beyond Walls, to optimize patient access and experience.
    6. Transformed and decentralized clinical trials
Fully transform access, diverse participation and delivery of decentralized cancer clinical trials, bringing trials to people and communities across geographic boundaries using digital and platform innovation.
    7. Improved health equity
Work closely with the diverse communities we serve to understand each one’s unique cancer burden and ensure our research and care are tailored to address those burdens, thereby reducing health disparities.
    8. A diverse cancer workforce
Emphasizing diversity and inclusion, connect learners from all backgrounds to meaningful educational opportunities to create a cancer workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
